Current practice
Natural burial
Natural Burial is a way of burying loved ones that is gentle to the earth, as we return the body of our dearly departed to the soil in a cotton shroud, wicker or untreated timber casket. By burying loved ones without contaminants such as plastics, traditional coffins or embalming fluids, we allow the soil microbes to do their work naturally, breaking the body down swiftly, reducing the risk of pathogen spread and contaminants entering groundwater and toxifying our precious soils.
About me
Hi, I’m Brittany. I’m a funeral director and celebrant with a passion for environmental restoration.
My aim is to establish a natural burial cemetery in the South Burnett region of Queensland, where loved ones can be laid to rest in a way that is gentle to them and to nature, giving the land a helping hand to regenerate.
I am also in the process of lobbying for legislation change in Queensland to make human composting legal. This is a longer term goal, which I will share more about on this website in future.
Current Plans & Projects
-
I am in the process of learning from industry leaders in councils, ACCA & Propel Funeral Partners about the processes and requirements involved with establishing a natural burial cemetery. Some of these industry experts will be on the panel of speakers at the events in February and March. For more information about the events please visit the home or project pages.
-
The Community Q&A events in February and March 2026 are designed to create awareness of an alternative disposition method in the community, and garner the community’s feedback to the concept. The next step will make making a proposal to council to either extend an existing cemetery, or allocate land to establish a new natural burial cemetery in the SOuth Burnett.
